I was born on 1918 and grew up on a farms in Iowa .Seeking adventure away from that simple but rugged life i decided to joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1940, my buddies and i saw the growing conflict in Europe and figured the United States would soon be involved. We decided that the Navy would be a lot safer so we enlisted. I was soon stationed in Arizona.
On December 7th of 1941 the morning I was about to take a shower when I heard the roar of explosions outside. One of my roommates jack says, "he tried to tell some of his friends and they were getting bombed but no one believed him because he always making them April Fools' jokes on. Get out of here they replied And he said, this is no April Fools.
While we were still working on our way up a staircase, a Marine lieutenant tried to stop us but then jack quickly and forcefully brushed past to make his way outside. Many of the men that were left behind below deck would die because of the attack. While we were focused to attempt to extinguish the tremendous flames, I was sent flying overboard when a crippling explosion rocked me front of the ship. Now in the oil-slicked waters, I saw no signs of hope in returning to the Arizona. After the attack, I was on another naval ship recovering from my burns and cuts.I remained in the Navy and flew missions as part of the Berlin.
